MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia College women’s cross country will kick off the season Saturday when they travel north to compete in the Fordham Fiasco in the Bronx, N.Y.

The Bobcats return almost every key runner from 2011, including the first ever All-Region runner for Georgia College Allison Lones (Kathleen, Ga.). She not only became the first All-Region runner in GC history, but also holds the first and second places in GC record for 6K races. Rebecca Shane (Lilburn, Ga.) returns as well, with three second place finishes in 2011, and putting up a scoring finish in all seven races for the Bobcats. Other key returning Bobcats are junior Ashton Passino (Alpharetta, Ga.), who finished with scoring times in six of seven races in 2011, and senior Victoria Dobson (New Hamburg, Ontario), who had five scoring finishes in 2011.

The lone runner not returning to the team that put up more than one scoring finish is Karissa Ekstrom, who put up a scoring finish in six of seven events her senior year coming in second for the Bobcats on the first and last races of the season.

The Bobcats added plenty of talent to the already experienced roster, with four freshmen joining the team. Rachel Pasko (Jefferson, Ga.), Taylor Roeck (Cumming, Ga.), Whitney Sweet (Roswell, Ga.) and Megan Wetterhall (Atlanta) will all compete with each other and the veteran Bobcats to put up scoring finishes.

Cross Country, picked seventh in the PBC Preseason Coaches Poll, will run in four events before the PBC Championships Oct. 20 in Montevallo, Ala.
