Women’s Cross Country Remains At No. 6 in Southeast Poll

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- The Georgia College & State University women's cross country team rests at the sixth spot in the U.S. Cross Country Coaches Division II Southeast Regional Rankings. The poll came out yesterday (Sept. 16) three days after the women placed third at the Pre-Region Meet in Wingate, N.C.

Three other teams from the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) were in the top-10. The Bobcats remained at the sixth spot after an impressive showing at the Pre-Region Meet by freshman Karissa Ekstrom (Alpharetta, Ga.)pacing the Bobcats for the second-straight meet, finishing the 6K course in 26:02, good for 13th place. Supporting Ekstrom was junior Heather Raines (Loganville, Ga.) in 22nd (26:27) and classmate Bonnie Ueltzen (Blairsville, Ga.) in 27th (26:40).

Senior Sarah Hakala (Jacksonville, Fla.) was 36th at 27:13, and freshman Sarah Balkcom (Fayetteville, Ga.) came in one spot later at 27:16.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Sept. 20 at the University of Alabama-Huntsville for the Fleet Feet Sports/Earl Jacoby Memorial.
