MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – In a key Peach Belt Conference (PBC) matchup of two tightly-matched teams, the Georgia College Volleyball squad (7-2, 3-1 PBC) came out on top Tuesday, taking down Lander University (9-3, 2-2 PBC) in four sets at the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats took the first set 25-22, then dropped the second 25-20, the third set would prove Georgia College's most dominant, a 25-14 score before closing out the match 25-21.
"We knew Lander was going to be a tough match tonight," said head coach Gretchen Krumdieck. "We had another balanced attack and had an amazing defense behind the block."
Freshman Libby Bochniak (Marietta) led the attack with 16 kills, hitting .350 on 40 attacks. She also pulled in 12 digs for a double-double, her second of the season. The kill total was her best effort on the year. Junior Ebony Powers (Jacksonville, Florida) finished with 11 kills and 13 digs, her fourth double-double of the year. Powers has now had double-digit kills in four straight matches.
Senior Chandler Ewaldsen (Savannah) had 18 digs and got involved in the offense as well, adding seven assists and four aces. Leading the team in both digs and assists was Kayla Brockway (Jacksonville, Florida), totaling 40 helps with 22 digs. Freshman Jordyn Moellering (Cumming) aided the defense as well with 11 digs, one off her season-best.
The Bobcat front line was active as well, finishing with 20 blocks, led by junior Taylor Svehla (Cumming) with six block assists.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m., closing out the month at USC Aiken.
