Early Lead Doesn’t Hold, Bobcats lose 50-43

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.  – The Georgia College women's basketball team (12-12, 8-9 PBC) had a lead as big as seven points Saturday afternoon against the University of Montevallo (16-11, 11-7 PBC), but the Bobcats would fall behind in the second half and lose in the end with a final score of 50-43.

The Bobcats were led by Shanteona Keys (Roswell, Ga.) as she finished with 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting. Enisha Donley (Loganville, Ga.) was the only other Bobcat to finish in double figures, at 10. Donley struggled from the field, shooting 2-of-8, but made up for it by getting to the line a game-high eight times and making six of the attempts.

As a team, the Bobcats shot 14-of-41 from the field and only 2-of-9 from behind the arc. The Falcons shot 19-of-50 from the field and 5-of-15 from downtown. The Bobcats out-rebounded the Falcons by a 31-25 margin, but Georgia College turned the ball over four more times than the Falcons, at 19 compared to 15.

Thresia Elskamp (Potosi, Wis.) struggled from the floor, shooting 2-of-9 and finishing with six points. She filled up the rest of the box score, grabbing a career-high 11 rebounds, dishing out five assists and coming away with four steals.

Taylor Beverly led the Falcons, finishing with 19 points on 9-of-16 shooting. She also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Trena Moore-Smith had a game-high six assists, while added seven points and playing all 40 minutes.

The Bobcats hit the road for a game against Lander University Thursday, Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m.
