MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College & State University women's basketball team (12-5, 7-3 PBC) was slotted at No. 8 in the first NCAA Division II Women's Southeast Region Poll released this season Wednesday (Jan. 28).

Three other teams representing the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) are ranked in the Southeast Region poll with Francis Marion University at No. 2, USC Aiken and Clayton State University at five and six respectively.

The Bobcats, despite being 12-5 on the season are only 9-5 in the poll due to the NCAA not counting NAIA opponents in which Georgia College defeated University of Mobile and Tougaloo College. The poll also does not include the game from last night (Jan. 28) as the poll was released earlier that day.

Eight teams from each of the eight regions make the NCAA tournament. The three conference winners receive automatic bids leaving five at-large bids from each region.

The USA Today ESPN Division II Top 25 Poll was released Tuesday (Jan. 27). The ‘Cats are still receiving votes but have yet to make the jump into the nation's best.  Georgia College improved from two votes a week ago to seven.

The Bobcats host PBC foe, Augusta State University, Saturday Jan. 31 at 2 p.m.
