#17 GC Golf Fourth After First Round of NCAA SuperRegional

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – With a great first round of three-over par, the No. 17 Georgia College golf team is positioned fourth Monday after round one of three at the NCAA South/Southeast SuperRegional.

Taking on a tough 20-team field, the Bobcats need to finish in the top-seven to advance to the NCAA Finals. The Bobcats fired a three-over 291 on the par-72, 6,928-yard El Campeon Course at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort.

Senior two-time All-American Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) leads the way for Georgia College at even-par, good for 12th place in the 108-golfer field. Garrett was consistent throughout, posting a pair of birdies and a pair of bogeys. He was sub-par on the par-three second and the par-five 10th.

Three golfers shot 73 for the Bobcats today, as juniors Bryan Fox (Roswell, Ga.) and Victor Monte (Chantilly, Ga.) joined sophomore All-American Ryan Trocchio (Norcross, Ga.) in 19th place.

Fox carded four birdies, three of the four coming on par-five holes. Monte had just two bogeys offset with a birdie on the par-five first hole. Trocchio put up a consistent round as well, birdying Nos. 9 and 14 while showing three holes over par.

Senior All-American Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ga.) added a five-over 77 to the mix in 60th place.

No. 2 Barry University leads the field at four-under with a 284. No. 1 Nova Southeastern University is second at one-under, with No. 8 Lynn University a stroke behind at even par.

NSU's Recardo Celia, the No. 5 individual player in the country, is atop the leaderboard at three-under par, slightly ahead of a four-way tie for second.

Round two of three tees off tomorrow, May 7 as the Bobcats play with members of No. 10 University of North Alabama and No. 6 Florida Southern College. Garrett will get things rolling for Georgia College at 12:50 p.m.
