MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) recently announced the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large teams, and senior Matthew Yonz (Waycross, Ga.) of the No. 10 Georgia College golf team was named to the District 3 College Division First Team.

The senior finished with 3.96 GPA in chemistry and general business at Georgia College, the top GPA of any male Bobcat student-athlete. This marks the second time Yonz has been named to this list, after earning a spot on the second team in 2010.

Yonz posted a 74.8 stroke average over nine events this season. He was one of 12 selections to the first team, and now will advance to the Academic All-America ballot, with selections announced June 7.

The College Division includes the NCAA’s Division II and III as well as the NAIA schools. The At-Large group includes student-athletes from golf, fencing; gymnastics; ice hockey; lacrosse; rifle; skiing; swimming; tennis; volleyball; water polo; and wrestling. Yonz was the only Peach Belt Conference (PBC) selection on the first team. District 3 includes all schools from Virginia, North and South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. The teams are voted on by the region’s sports information directors.

The Georgia College Department of Athletics, back-to-back winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup, sponsors 10 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level. As a Division II program, Bobcat Athletics prides itself on balancing the life of the student-athlete, evidenced by the teams' multiple appearances in post-season competition as well as documented academic success and community-service involvement.
