NEW ORLEANS – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its first set of Division II Region Polls, with the Georgia College Women's squad taking the ninth slot in the Southeast Region.

The Bobcats are predicted for improvement after finishing 11th at last year's meet. Georgia College is fifth among the five Peach Belt Conference (PBC) schools in the top-10. The University of North Georgia comes in No. 4 in the region, with Augusta University sixth, Flagler College seventh and UNC Pembroke one slot ahead of the Bobcats. Queens University of the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) is the top team in the region.

The Bobcats posted strong finishes in 2016, including sixth at the PBC Championship and 11th in the NCAA Regional. The Bobcats return a trio of seniors in Rebecca Winslow (Lawrenceville), Brittney Schwind (Suwanee) and Katherine Yost (Norcross). Last season, two-time All-Region honoree Yost became the first runner in Bobcat history to qualify for the NCAA Finals.

The Bobcats will race for the first time Friday, Sept. 1 as the Bobcats take on the field at the VSU Border Clash in Valdosta.

The Georgia College Department of Athletics, two-time winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup, sponsors 11 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level. As a Division II program, Bobcat Athletics prides itself on balancing the life of the student-athlete, evidenced by the teams' multiple appearances in post-season competition as well as documented academic success and community-service involvement.
