MACON, Ga. – Georgia College women's cross country made the short trip to Macon, Ga. Saturday to compete in the Mercer RunFit Invitational. The Bobcats had an extremely successful day as a team, coming in second out of 19 teams.
Freshman Taylor Roeck (Cumming, Ga.) repeated last week's results, coming in 12th overall out of 166 runners and first for the team again with a time of 20:01. Allison Lones (Kathleen, Ga) had a bounce-back performance, finishing 14th overall and second on the team with a time of 20:14.
The Bobcats ran in a close pack during the Saturday morning race, with Roeck finishing just 31 seconds ahead of the number five runner Whitney Sweet (Roswell, Ga.). Sweet finished with a time of 20:32, a finish of 21st overall and just nine spots behind Roeck. Senior Victoria Dobson (New Hamburg, Ontario) brought up the middle of the team pack, with a time of 20:23, an 18th place finish overall and third on the team. Meghan Wetterhall (Atlanta) finished right behind Dobson, coming in 20th overall and with a time of 20:30.
This was the second race in a row that three freshmen put up scoring finishes for the Bobcats, with Lones and Dobson also putting up scoring finishes in each of the races. The Bobcats finished with 80 points Saturday; just 18 behind first place Columbus State University. GC finished ahead of conference opponents Young Harris College and the University of North Georgia.
The Bobcats will travel a little further for their next race, with the Roy Griak Invitational being run in Minneapolis, Minn. Saturday, Sept. 29.
