NEW ORLEANS – The Georgia College women’s cross country team was ranked No. 8 in the most recent U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), as announced by the NCAA Tuesday.
The Bobcats return eight runners, adding four newcomers. Peach Belt Conference (PBC) foe Augusta State University takes No. 5, leading all PBC teams. Clayton State University and UNC Pembroke sit at No. 6 and No. 7, respectively. The Conference Carolinas took the top-2 spots with Queens College is tabbed No. 1 and King College takes No. 2.
The Bobcats finished ninth at the NCAA Southeast Regional meet in 2010, aided by the effort of Allison Lones (Kathleen, Ga.). The freshman led the Bobcats in the final six races of her rookie season.
GC cross country starts its season Friday, Sept. 2 at home, hosting the Bobcat Invitational on the West Campus Cross Country Course.
