CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Sophomore Allison Lones (Kathleen, Ga.) became the first All-Region performer in school history Saturday, as the Georgia College women's cross country team took 13th place at the NCAA Southeast Regional meet at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, N.C. Lones finished in 19th place.
The 6K course was no match for Lones, who ran the race in 23:08, shattering her own 6K school record of 24:00. Lones' effort makes her the first All-Southeast Region runner in Georgia College women's cross country history.
A pair of seniors made the most of their final races. Karissa Ekstrom (Alpharetta, Ga.) was the next Bobcat finisher in 24:21, good for 73rd place. Her time ranks tied for eighth in school history. Victoria Dobson (New Hamburg, Ontario) finished just five seconds later in 80th place, her time ranking ninth in the school recordbooks.
The Bobcats finished in 13th place with 346 points, just 16 points behind 12th place Wingate University. Queens College dominated the field finishing with 39 points. The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Champion University of Montevallo finished in second place with 140 points followed by Mount Olive College with 145 points. The Bobcats were sixth of the nine Peach Belt Conference (PBC) teams at the meet.
The Southeast Regional brings an end to the Bobcats' 2011 campaign. A season that saw Lones take All-PBC and All-Region honors along with Dobson taking All-Academic honors for the PBC.
