IRVINE, Cailf. – The Georgia College women's cross country team, led by sophomore Allison Lones (Kathleen, Ga.), finished 10th at the ASICS/UC Irvine Cross Country Invitational.
Lones finished the 5K course in 20:35, which was good for 43rd place among scoring runners.
A trio of Bobcats finished closely behind, as sophomore Ashton Passino (Alpharetta, Ga.), freshman Rebecca Shane (Lilburn, Ga.) and senior Karissa Ekstrom (Alpharetta, Ga.) finished within four spots of each other.
Passino's 5K time of 21:12 was good for 55th, while Shane finished in 56th place with a time of 21:16. Ekstrom rounded out the threesome with her 58th place finish in 21:27.
Finishing the scoring for the Bobcats was sophomore Andrea Byrnes (Snellville, Ga.), who completed the 5K in 22:09, placing 61st.
The Bobcat women had 273 team points one slot ahead of Soka University of America, an NAIA school in California. GC was just 11 points behind Glendale Community College (Ariz.). The NAIA's California Baptist won the team race with 59 points. Annie Lydens of Ponoma-Pitzer College was the top finisher among scoring runners with an 18:27 time.
Georgia College hopes to continue their pack-running style when they compete Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Bridgestone-Pacer Invitational, hosted by USC Aiken.
