MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College women's cross country got the 2011 season under way Friday afternoon, taking second place in the Third Annual Bobcat Invitational. Sophomore Allison Lones (Kathleen, Ga.) and senior Karissa Ekstrom (Alpharetta, Ga.) paced the Bobcats with their fifth and sixth place finishes.
Lones blistered the 5K course at 21:27, with Ekstrom coming in just 21 seconds later.
Sophomore Ashton Passino (Alpharetta, Ga.) also ran a solid race finishing slightly behind Ekstrom with a time of 21:55, good for seventh.
The Bobcats continued to finish in waves as freshman Rebecca Shane (Lilburn, Ga.) took eighth place with her time of 21:58. Junior Courtney Timmerman (Dearing, Ga.) finished off the scoring for GC with her time of 22:09 and 10th place finish.
Georgia College picked up 36 team points, falling just short of Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) who totaled 21.
The top eight finishers hailed from Georgia College and SCAD, with the Bobcats adding one more in the top-10.
The Bobcat women will head to the UC Irvine Invitational Saturday, Sept. 10.
