AUGUSTA, Ga. – Freshman Allison Lones (Kathleen, Ga.) snapped an eight-year-old school record in the 5K Saturday, as the Georgia College women’s cross country team finished third at the ASU Tri-Meet, hosted by Augusta State University.
Lones set the pace for the Bobcats for the fourth time this season, finishing fifth overall in 19:13. This smashed the previous school record (19:44) held by Bethany Loushine since 2002. Junior Karissa Ekstrom (Alpharetta, Ga.) would have broken the school record if not for Lones but took ninth place, finishing in 19:40.
Freshman Andrea
Byrnes (Snelleville, Ga.) crossed the finish line at
20:21, taking 16th, while classmate Ashton
Passino (Alpharetta, Ga.) finished 19th with a time of
20:37. Sophomore Courtney Timmerman (Dearing, Ga.) finished
22nd just 10 seconds behind Passino.
Augusta State won the team title with 31 total points. UNC Pembroke
took second with 36 points and Georgia College finished third with
63 points. Augusta’s Holly Keeper won the individual title
with a time of 18:20.
