NEW ORLEANS - The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association of America (USTFCCCA) recently released its region rankings, with the Georgia College & State University women's team taking fifth.

The Bobcats ranked third among the four Peach Belt Conference (PBC) schools on the list. Lees-McRae College took the top slot, followed by 2008 PBC Champion Columbus State University. Fellow conference school Augusta State University was picked third, followed by Lenoir-Rhyne University, and then the Bobcats. Winding down the list were Converse College, North Georgia, Carson-Newman College, Queens (N.C.) University and Anderson University.

The Bobcats are led by two former All-PBC runners in senior Bonnie Ueltzen (Blairsville, Ga.) and junior Dani Destiche (Snellville, Ga.) but senior Heather Raines (Lawrenceville, Ga.) led the team in two meets, including taking 26th overall at the NCAA Southeast Regional.

The women begin their 2009 campaign Saturday, Sept. 12 at the Berry Invitational, hosted by Berry College.
