Bobcat Cross Country Speeds Through Macon

MACON, Ga.- The Georgia College & State University cross country teams competed today (Sept. 27) at the RunFit Sports Invitational hosted by Mercer University. The shortest road trip of the season makes the fifth straight weekend that the Bobcats have been in competition. The women finished eighth among 24 teams, while the men took 10th out of 22.

Junior Heather Raines (Lawrenceville, Ga.)led the women harriers for the second week in a row. She finished 33rd on the 5K course. Junior Bonnie Ueltzen (Blairsville, Ga.) was 40th and sophomore Dani Destiche (Snellville, Ga.) was 42nd.

Senior Sarah Hakala (Jacksonville, Fla.)placed 45th and freshman Alexa Maring (Lawrenceville, Ga.) rounded out the top five for the women at 55th.

The men were led by freshman Rob Manning (Lawrenceville, Ga.) who finished at 27:33, which gave him 42nd place. Junior Josh Hollar (Canton, Ga.) was 49th with a time of 27:44. Rookie Colin Conroy (Dacula, Ga.)ran the 8K in 28:05 placing him 59th.

Rookie Travis Knight (Oxford, Ga.) and sophomore Tim Cary (Monroe, Ga.) were fourth (28:17) and fifth on the team, respectively.

East Tennessee State University finished first for the men with their own Kenneth Rotich taking first overall with a time of 24:09. Jacksonville University finished first on the women's side with Allison Kreutzer of Clayton State University finishing first overall at 17:50.

The Bobcats return to action Oct. 4 traveling to Pepperdine University for the Pepperdine Invitational in Malibu, Calif.
