MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College volleyball program and head coach Gretchen Krumdieck released their 2014 schedule this week. Bobcat volleyball will be in their second season as a team.
"This should be a great year for us," said Krumdieck. "Our schedule is competitive in the Region and we are looking forward to the high level in the Peach Belt. We have worked hard this off-season to prepare us for the 2014 season."
After the kickoff Blue/Green scrimmage match at home Thursday, Aug. 28 at 6 p.m., the team will compete in the Falcon Classic in Misenheimer, N.C. against Shepherd College, Slippery Rock University, Shaw University and Pfeiffer University. These matches will take place Sept. 5-6.
The following Tuesday the Bobcats will head to Ft. Valley, Ga. to play against Fort Valley State University. They will then compete in the Columbus State Tournament Sept. 12-13. The Bobcats will have their first Peach Belt Conference (PBC) match against the University of Montevallo, and then play Mars Hill College and Brevard College.
The next three games will be at home in the Centennial Center against Flagler College Sept. 19, Armstrong Atlantic State University Sept. 20 and Fort Valley State Sept. 23. Armstrong Atlantic is the defending champions in the PBC. The Bobcats then travel to South Carolina for a match against Lander University Sept. 26, and then against USC Aiken Sept. 27.
The team is back at home for four straight matches, the first of which is Sept. 30 against Columbus State University in another "Battle for the Pickle Barrel" matchup. The following weekend includes matches against UNC Pembroke and Francis Marion University. Oct. 11-12 features games against GRU Augusta and Spring Hill College.
The next three games will be on the road, with matches against Montevallo, Armstrong, Flagler and Palm Beach Atlantic University. The last two home games will be Oct. 24-25 against USC Aiken and Lander. The Lander match will also serve as Senior Day.
The final four matches are away at Columbus State, FMU, UNCP and GRUA. The PBC Tournament is slated for Nov. 14-16 in Greenwood, S.C.
The Bobcats are looking forward to their second season as a team, coming off a year with a 6-23 mark, two of those victories in PBC contests. The Bobcats made quite a splash in their opener, packing the Centennial Center with over 2,500 in attendance to witness the first match in Bobcat varsity volleyball history. The Bobcats went with a largely freshman roster, just one member not in her first season of college volleyball.
