GC Volleyball Drops Two More Four-Set Battles at UWG Invite

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Georgia College volleyball team (1-4) lost two gritty four-set matches Saturday at the UWG Invitational, hosted by the University of West Georgia. The Bobcats fell to both Malone University and the host Wolves.

Against Malone, the Bobcats dropped the first set 25-14 before evening out the affair by taking the second 25-20. Malone responded with a 25-21 and 25-17 to close out the match.

Rachel Reynolds (Marietta, Ga.) led both teams with a season-high 19 kills, hitting .486. No one else managed double digits for the Bobcats, with Haley Ashworth (Cumming, Ga.) the next closest at six to go with 10 digs. Caroline Ham (Marietta, Ga.) led the team with 20 bumps, with setter Micayla Patterson (Tyrone, Ga.) recording her first double-double of 13 digs and 30 assists. Ashton Bigler (Fairborn, Ga.) added 11 digs to the defensive effort.

The Bobcats were busy up front with eight team blocks, Caroline Long (Roswell, Ga.) recording six total on two solo and four helps.

Georgia College hit .206 on the match, bested slightly by Malone's .224. The Pioneers put three attackers in double-digit kills, led by Taylor Slauterbeck and Lauren Towney at 12 apiece.

Against the UWG Wolves, Georgia College dropped the first two sets 25-19 and 25-15 before rallying for a third-set win 25-21. West Georgia closed the four-set battle with a 25-17 score in the final frame.

The Georgia College attack was again led by Reynolds, this time with 12 kills and a .276 average. Long and Ashley Savransky (Roswell, Ga.­) helped out with six kills each. Ham did her previous defensive effort one better in match two, putting up a Bobcat season-best 21 digs. Patterson again ran the offense with 26 assists.

Georgia College hit just .131 on the match, West Georgia hitting at a .218 rate. The Wolves' Emily Reul hit an impressive .469 with 16 kills. Setter Amanda Miller had 46 assists, contributing to the offense with four aces, five kills and three total blocks.

The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m., hosting the University of Montevallo in the start of Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play.
