GC Women’s Tennis Finishes Season Ranked #21

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its final rankings of the 2017-18 season, with Georgia College Women's Tennis taking the No. 21 slot in the country.

The Bobcats were runners-up in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament, compiling a 15-8 record overall. The Bobcats finish the season No. 21 in the country and No. 5 in the Southeast Region. GC Women's Tennis is third among PBC schools, behind only national No. 3Columbus State University and national No. 18 University of North Georgia.

Georgia College landed two on the singles list in the region, as senior Jena Kelly (Lawrenceville, Georgia) took No. 11 and junior Paula Garriga (Barcelona, Spain) No. 18. Kelly went 11-10 this season, including 5-4 in PBC play and a win over then-No. 44 Marie Krueger of Francis Marion University. Garriga led the team with an 18-2 singles mark, including 8-1 in conference play.

The 2018 campaign has come to a close Bobcat Women's Tennis, a season that saw Georgia College advance to the PBC Title game for the first time since 2003. Georgia College went 15-8, landing Kelly and freshman Emilia Richter All-PBC honors in singles, and the doubles pairing of Kelly and Valeria Lopez an All-PBC trophy as well.

The Georgia College Department of Athletics, two-time winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup and the 2017 PBC Sportsmanship Institution of the Year, sponsors 11 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level.
