MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Senior Emma Niemi (Cumming) of the No. 21 Georgia College Women's Tennis team (15-7) has been named Bobcat Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 22.
Niemi went 3-2 at the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament last week, including the biggest victory of the season for Georgia College in singles Saturday. She teamed with Paula Garriga (Barcelona, Spain) for wins over the third-doubles teams from Augusta University and the University of North Georgia, and fell to the squad from #3 Columbus State University in the title game. In singles play, with the semifinal match against UNG tied 4-4, Niemi pulled out the deciding point in a grueling 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 battle to put Georgia College into the PBC Championship game for the first time since 2003.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, April 28 at 1 p.m. taking on North Georgia in the NCAA Southeast Regional II Semifinals in Wingate, North Carolina.
