MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Senior Jena Kelly (Lawrenceville) of the Georgia College Women's Tennis team was named Bobcat Athlete of the Week for her efforts during the week ending Oct. 1.
Kelly had a strong showing at the ITA Southeast Regionals, picking up three singles victories and three doubles wins, all in Flight A action. Kelly upset the No. 9-seed Claudia DeAndreis 6-0, 6-1 in the first round, then added a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Daria Avram of Barton College. After another upset, this time over No. 5-seed Franziska Funke of Tusculum College 7-6(4), 7-5, Kelly lost in the quarterfinals to the No. 3-seed Lizanne Jinkertz of Flagler College. In doubles, Kelly teamed with Valeria Lopez as the No. 2-seed. They beat pairings from Francis Marion University, Lincoln Memorial University and Emmanuel College to get to the semifinals, where a loss to another Francis Marion duo ended the Bobcats' weekend.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Oct. 6 at the Mercer Gridiron Classic in Macon.
