MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The GC Fall Championships came to a close Saturday for Georgia College Women's Tennis, with all-Bobcat finals in both the singles and doubles brackets.
In singles play, senior Jena Kelly (Lawrenceville) started today's action with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Caroline Yodice of Lander University. Kelly then added a 6-3, 4-6, 10-7 semifinal win over Bobcat teammate Emilia Richter (Berlin, Germany) before action came to a close today. Richter advanced to the semis with a 6-1, 2-6, 10-4 win over teammate Valeria Lopez (Galicia, Spain).
Paula Garriga (Centelles, Spain) started Saturday with a quarterfinal win over Lander's Lucia Ric, 6-1, 6-0. Garriga then followed that up with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Lander's Eduarda Ferreira in the semis. Garriga and Kelly will play the title match in practice sometime this week.
In doubles play, Kelly and Lopez topped Lander's duo of Ferreira and Nelli Lius 8-3. The other Bobcat duo of Garriga and Emma Niemi (Cumming) controlled Middle Georgia State University's Laura Cocoma and Lara Persiani in the semifinals to set up the all-GC finals.
Kelly and Lopez took the intrasquad matchup 8-1, and the GC Fall Championship doubles title.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Sept. 29 at the ITA Southeast Regionals in Sumter, South Carolina.
