GC Women’s Tennis Falls in Region Final, 5-0

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Taking on a National top-10 team on its court, the No. 6-seed Georgia College women's tennis team's (19-7) upset bid fell short in the NCAA Southeast Region #2 final Monday at No. 2-seed Columbus State University (20-4), 5-0.

The loss marks back-to-back region finale appearances for GC Women's Tennis.

Freshman Camille Clausse-Pujo (Bourdeaux, France) and senior Ivana Marevic (Rottweil, Germany) teamed for the final time, an 8-1 defeat to Paola Cigui and Camila Tobar to start the scoring for the Cougars.

The third slot finished next, as sophomore Katie Krupp (Evans, Ga.) and freshman Cristalei Polk (Powder Springs, Ga.) battled to an 8-5 loss to Olivera Tadijin and Beatriz Leon. Laura Chapman and Olivera Jokic made it a clean sweep in another tough 8-5 battle in the second slot to a pair of freshmen in Macy Polk (Powder Springs, Ga.) and Hannah Serdinia (Suwanee, Ga.).

Jokic provided the 4-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Marevic in the third slot, and No. 16 Leon provided the clincher with a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Clausse-Pujo in the second slot.

At the time of completion, the four remaining Bobcat singles bouts were all down a set, but both Macy Polk and Krupp had second-set leads. Krupp was up on Tadijin 5-2 and Macy Polk had a 4-3 lead in the first slot over No. 3 Cigui.

The loss brings to a close another outstanding season for GC Women's Tennis, making the 20th straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament with a 19-7 mark. The Bobcats took fifth place in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament, and placed Macy Polk on the All-PBC Team.
