MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Freshman Macy Polk (Powder Springs, Ga.) of the Georgia College women's tennis team was named Bobcat Athlete of the Week, after her incredible performance during the week ending April 13.
Polk went 6-2 in a long week of tennis, with her only losses against Armstrong Atlantic State University, the Defending National Champions. The week started with these two losses, losing singles to No. 15 Marlen Hacke 6-1, 6-3 and teaming up for an 8-2 loss in doubles action.
The rest of the week was smooth sailing, starting with a rebound behind win of 7-6, 6-1 against Ann-Sophie Porry from Young Harris College. Polk and Serdinia added a shutout win in doubles. Polk continued with an upset win against region-No. 8 Nadine Tusiama of USC Aiken 6-4, 6-1, adding another doubles win with Serdinia. She ended the week with yet another doubles win against Lander University, and a near shutout of Marion Courbis in the first slot 6-1, 6-0.
Polk is now 13-7 in singles action and 12-9 in doubles play. The Bobcats had a 3-1 record this week, with a 6-1 win over Lander to finish their regular season at 16-6. The team went 9-4 in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC), earning the No. 5 seed in the PBC Tournament.
