#26 GC Women’s Tennis Finishes Regular Season with 6-1 over #40 Lander
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 26 Georgia College women's tennis team (16-6, 9-4 PBC) finished with a 9-1 record at home, completing the regular season with a 6-1 victory over No. 40 Lander University (15-5, 8-5 PBC) at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.
The Bobcats started strong, sweeping doubles action as the team's lone senior Ivana Marevic (Rottweil, Germany) went 2-0 in her final matches on the home court.
Camille Clausse-Pujo (Bourdeaux, France) and Marevic got the rout rolling with an 8-2 victory over Carolina Lainez and Cayce Bradley in the first slot. Katie Krupp (Evans, Ga.) and Cristalei Polk (Powder Springs, Ga.) added an 8-4 victory in the third slot over Marion Courbis and Renata Mello. Krupp and Cristalei Polk remain the team's best active doubles pairing at 6-1 on the season.
Singles action featured a pair of Polk wins, another victory for the Bobcat senior and Lander's lone point of the match.
Macy Polk got a first singles victory over Courbis in short fashion 6-1, 6-0, improving the Bobcat freshman to 13-7. Sister Cristalei Polk followed with a pair of 6-2 sets to get past Ivanka Mocic in the fourth slot, clinching the team victory. Cristalei Polk is now a team-best 17-4 on the season.
Marevic won her last match at home, a 6-4, 6-1 defeat of Vanhpraseuth in the third spot. Clausse-Pujo lost the final bout 6-4, 6-3 to Lainez. Marevic improves to 12-6, while Clausse-Pujo drops to 12-9.
The Bobcats finish 9-4 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play, currently fourth in the league standings. Georgia College will find its PBC Tournament seed after the regular season closes Tuesday, April 15.
