#27 GC Women’s Tennis Blanks Ferris State
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Featuring five straight-set singles victories, the No. 27 Georgia College women's tennis team (7-3) picked up a solid shutout Friday at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility over Ferris State University (8-16). Of the team's seven wins this season, five have come by shutout.
The day started with a doubles sweep, as Cristalei Polk (Powder Springs, Ga.) and Hannah Serdinia (Suwanee, Ga.) teamed for an 8-2 victory over Rebecca Beloungea and Anne Smudz in the third spot. Cristalei Polk and Serdinia improve to a team-best 7-2 on the season.
Katie Krupp (Evans, Ga.) and Ivana Marevic (Rottweil, Germany) added a win over Janie Sell and Sydney Berens in second doubles 8-4, giving the Bobcat pair its sixth win of the season. Camille Clausse-Pujo (Bourdeaux, France) and Macy Polk (Suwanee, Ga.) finished doubles action with an 8-3 victory over Ana Jan and Gabrielle Demchenko.
Marevic started singles play with shutout of Sell in the third slot, improving the senior to 6-3 on the season. Providing the crucial fifth team point was defending Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Player of the Week Cristalei Polk with a 6-1, 6-1 score over Berens.
Singles domination continued with Macy Polk providing a first slot win over Jan 6-2, 6-1, then Clausse-Pujo battling to a 1-6, 6-3, 10-5 victory over Demchenko in the second spot. Fifth singles was decided next, with Serdinia taking down Beloungea 6-1, 6-4. Krupp finished the sweep in quick fashion with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Smudz in the second spot.
Krupp, a sophomore, picked up her 50th career win in today's singles victory, now owning exactly 25 singles wins and 25 doubles wins in her career.
Serdinia and the Polk sisters continue to own the team's best record in singles action at 7-3 this year.
The Bobcats are back in action Sunday, March 16 at 2:30 p.m., taking on No. 42 University of Central Oklahoma in neutral-site play in Pensacola, Fla.
