MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 19 Georgia College women’s tennis team gets its 2013 season underway Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m., traveling to Valdosta State University.
The Bobcats return nearly the entire roster from last year’s squad, including senior Kayla Barksdale (Augusta, Ga.) who went 18-4 in singles action a year ago.
Classmate May Johnson (Sydney, Australia) was 13-5 overall last year, including a 7-5 mark in the first singles slot. The Bobcats return a pair of other double-digit singles winners in Ivana Marevic (Rotteweil, Germany) at 12-8 and Leah Pridgeon (Lawrenceville, Ga.) at 10-9.
The lone newcomer is freshman Katie Krupp (Evans, Ga.) who will look to build upon a strong fall season, who posted a strong run in the ITA Regional ‘B’ Flight.
The Bobcats went 13-11 a year ago, earning the No. 5-seed in the PBC Tournament, and eventually falling in the Southeast Region semifinal. Barksdale earned a spot on the All-PBC second team in doubles. The GC women have now made 18 straight trips to the NCAA Tournament.
The first home match for the Bobcats comes Monday, Feb. 11, as the Bobcats host Augusta State University at 2 p.m. to kick off the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) season.
