MORROW, Ga. – The No. 18 Georgia College women's tennis team (7-8, 3-4 PBC) jumped out to an early lead Wednesday afternoon against No. 50 Clayton State University (6-4, 4-2 PBC), but the Bobcats faltered late and dropped the match 6-3.
Ivana Marevic (Rottweil, Germany) and May Johnson (Sydney, Australia) played in the No. 2 doubles slot against Hannah Keeling and Ivana Krommelova from the Lakers. The Bobcat duo came out on top of the close 9-7 decision.
The Lakers would even the score quickly as Lingner faced off against Pavel in the No. 5 slot with Pavel winning 6-0, 6-1.
Johnson pushed the Bobcats back into lead while playing in the No. 2 slot. The senior made quick work of Krommelova, winning 6-1, 6-1. The win made the score 3-2 in favor of the Bobcats. The squad would falter after Johnson's match, failing to win another.
Krupp took on Leamana in the No. 4 slot and lost 6-2, 6-1. Barksdale saw her win streak of eight consecutive singles wins come to an end as she lost to Dudaj 6-1, 6-4.
Marevic nearly took the first set against Keeling, but lost overall 7-6, 6-1. Murray finished the afternoon off coming just short of a three-set victory against Charlotte Fabricius. Murray took the first set 7-5, before dropping the final two 7-6, 10-4.
The Bobcats will return to the court Saturday, March 23 for a neutral site game against University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras in Orlando, Fla.
