#18 Women’s Tennis Drops a Close One to #16 Florida Tech, 5-4

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The No. 18 Georgia College women's tennis team (3-5) dropped a close neutral-site match against No. 16 Florida Tech (6-3) Monday afternoon. The Bobcats were playing shorthanded, starting off the afternoon down 2-0. They would battle back but come up short 5-4.

Kayla Barksdale (Augusta, Ga.) and Katie Krupp (Evans, Ga.) played against Kristina Huba and Stephanie Dohner in the No. 1 doubles slot. The game would be pushed nearly to the limit, but the Bobcats dropped the match 8-6.

Ivana Marevic (Rottweil, Germany) and May Johnson (Sydney, Australia) played in the No. 2 doubles slot against Charlotte Fahnehjelm and Abbey Keister. The game would re remain close, but the Bobcats would come out on top 8-6

The Bobcats began singles play down 3-1.

Marevic played in the top slot against the No. 4 player in the nation Huba. Marevic would battle but fell 6-2, 6-2. In third singles, Barksdale started off with a battle against Chloe Chanley, but came out on top of the first set 6-4. The Bobcat senior shut out Chanely in the second set 6-0 for a 4-2 deficit on the team score.

Johnson brought the team within one win at 4-3 when she took on Dohner in the No. 2 slot and made quick work, winning 6-3, 6-3. Florida Tech got their fifth team point in fifth singles, as Sarah Murray (Alpharetta, Ga.) played Keister. Florida Tech came out on top 6-0, 6-1.

Finishing the day in the fourth slot, Krupp took three sets but finally took down Charlotte Fahnehjelm 6-1, 4-6, 10-8.

The Bobcats will be back in action Wednesday, March 9 at 3:30 p.m. with a neutral site game against No. 34 Wingate University in Augusta, Ga.
