MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College women’s tennis program continued its dominance on day two Saturday, taking 4-of-5 titles at the GC Women’s Fall Championships, presented by Windstream. The Bobcats hosted members of UNC Pembroke, the University of Tampa and ABAC.

In Flight “A” singles, May Johnson (Sydney) started her day off with a victory in the semifinals against Tampa’s Meg Wladimirski, 6-2, 6-3, but eventually fell in the finals to UT’s Thashia Garcia, 6-3, 6-3. Ivana Marevic (Rottweil, Germany) dropped her first match of the day in the semifinal to Garcia, 7-5, 6-3.

The Flight “B” singles draw proved to be no match for the Georgia College duo of Lisa Setyon-Ortenzio (Paris) and Michelle Lingner (Dunwoody, Ga.), as both members swept through the field and into the finals. Setyon-Ortenzio defeated Leigh Anne McAfee of UNCP, 6-2, 6-2 and Lingner took down Tampa’s Chloe Pereira in a marathon match, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6. The Flight “B” champion will be determined on Monday in practice for GC.

In Flight “C” singles, freshman Leah Pridgeon (Lawrenceville, Ga.) took the title. She upended Tampa’s Maddie Caropino in the semifinals, 6-2, 6-3 and then made ABAC’s Nikki Hall her next victim, 6-0, 6-2.

In Flight “A” doubles, the duo of Kayla Barksdale (Augusta, Ga.) and Marevic fell to Tampa’s Lauren Hewett and Leslie Raymond, 8-4. Lingner and Johnson picked up the Bobcats however, defeating Hannah Herlocker and Mia Winterbottom of UNCP, 8-6. The pair then defeated Raymond and Hewett in the final, 8-5.

In Flight “B” doubles Setyon-Ortenzio and Pridgeon breezed past Caropino and Becky Ewing of Tampa, 8-1. In the final, the duo took care of Beckham and Fahrner of Tampa, 8-3.

This tournament brings an end to the women’s tennis fall season. The Bobcats look to continue their solid play this coming spring.
