Johnson Named PBC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Georgia College junior women’s tennis player May Johnson (Sydney, Australia) has been named Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Women’s Tennis Player of the Week announced Tuesday by the conference office. 

Johnson helped the No. 16 Bobcats to a perfect 2-0 team record last week, enjoying a 4-0 record individually over that span, as well. 

She went undefeated in all four of her matches, taking down UNC Pembroke’s Mia Winterbottom 6-0, 7-5 at the No. 1 singles slot, while pairing with Michelle Lingner (Dunwoody, Ga.) to defeat Winterbottom and Hannah Herlocker 8-3 in No. 1 doubles action. 

In GC’s second match of the week, Johnson won at No. 1 singles in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0 over Clark Atlanta’s Vanessa Jean-Baptiste. She would then team with Sara Roberts (Kennesaw, Ga.) in an 8-3 victory over Keva Palmer and Jean-Baptiste. 

Johnson and the rest of the women’s and men’s tennis squad will host No. 3 Armstrong Wednesday at 2 p.m. before playing Flagler College Saturday, Feb. 25 at noon.
