MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. –The No. 16 Georgia College women's tennis squad (4-3) got off to a slow start against the #40 Bulldogs of Wingate University, dropping a non-conference match at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility Wednesday afternoon by the score of 6-3.

The Bobcats fell into a quick 2-1 hole after doubles action despite Kayla Barksdale (Augusta, Ga.) and Lisa Setyon-Ortenzio (Paris) winning at the No. 1 spot 8-6 over regionally-ranked No. 9 Ali Evers and Becca Thomas.

Unfortunately, GC dropped its other pair of doubles matches with Ivana Marevic (Rottweil, Germany) and Leah Pridgeon (Lawrenceville, Ga.) falling 9-7 to Olivia Poole and Tiffany Williams, as the No. 3 tandem of Michelle Lingner (Dunwoody, Ga.) and Sara Roberts (Kennesaw, Ga.) lost to Morgan Winston and Samantha Alschlager 8-4.

Barksdale and Setyon-Ortenzio would continue their perfect days in singles action defeating Poole and Evers, respectively. Barksdale won her match in straight-sets 6-3, 6-1, as did Setyon-Ortenzio 6-1, 6-3.

No. 5 slot Lingner played a tough match against Kelli Ferguson eventually falling 7-5, 6-3.

Marevic wouldn't fare much better in singles action dropping her match to Thomas 6-0, 6-1, as Pridgeon fell at the No. 3 slot in a grueling three-set match against Winston 6-1, 2-6, 6-2.

Williams finished off the scoring for the Bulldogs defeating Roberts at the No. 6 position 6-1, 6-1.

The GC women will be back on the court Friday, March 9 at 1 p.m. when they travel to the University of West Georgia.
