MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 16 Georgia College women's tennis team (4-2, 2-2 PBC) picked up a crucial Peach Belt Conference (PBC) victory over the University of Montevallo (5-4, 0-2 PBC) Sunday afternoon at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility, defeating the Falcons 9-0.
The Bobcats swept the doubles portion of the match 3-0, continuing the trend in singles action en route to the 9-0 victory.
The No. 2 duo of Ivana Marevic (Rottweil, Germany) and Leah Pridgeon (Lawrenceville, Ga.) made quick work of Montevallo's Amy McGucken and Meagan Stevens 8-0, as Michelle Lingner (Dunwoody, Ga.) and Sara Roberts (Kennesaw, Ga.) were nearly flawless in an 8-2 win over Lauren Blair and Kiana Banks at the No. 3 spot.
The singles portion of the match ran about as smooth as doubles, with Roberts taking down Banks at the No. 6 position 6-0, 6-0.
Lingner and Barksdale surrendered just a game apiece in their individual wins, defeating Stevens and Blair 6-0, 6-1, respectively.
In No. 1 singles, Setyon-Ortenzio won in straight-sets over Polcerova 6-3, 7-5, with Marevic defeating Nordgreen 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 2 position.
Pridgeon rounded out the scoring for the Bobcats, taking down McGucken 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 4.
Georgia College will host Wingate University Wednesday, March 7 for a non-conference match beginning at 2 p.m.
