#16 GC Women Open 2012 Season with 5-1 Victory over Anderson

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 16 Georgia College women's tennis team (1-0) picked up a win in their first match of the 2012 season, defeating Anderson University (1-3), 6-1 Friday afternoon at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.
While the team didn't get their full slate of games in, the Bobcat women made the most of the matches they did play.
The 'Cats opened up a 2-1 lead following doubles action, as the No. 2 duo of Kayla Barksdale (Augusta, Ga.) and Lisa Setyon (Paris) defeated Clair Larkin and Bianca Chequin 8-3.
The No. 1 tandem of May Johnson (Sydney, Australia) and Michelle Lingner (Dunwoody, Ga.) dropped their season opener 9-8 against Camie Beaulieu-Brune and Shelby Anderson, but Johnson recovered quickly, winning in straight-sets over Owens at the No. 1 singles spot.
Georgia College also received singles victories from Setyon and Barksdale to effectively clinch the match 5-1. Setyon won in straight-sets over Beaulieu-Brune 6-2, 6-2, while Barksdale went the distance against Anderson 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.
The GC women will have a day to rest before their first Peach Belt Conference (PBC) match of the season at Augusta State University Sunday, Feb. 12 at 1 p.m.
