GC Women’s Tennis Moves to #16 in Nation
SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its national and regional rankings for Division II women’s tennis recently, with Georgia College (16-9) taking No. 16 in the country.
The Bobcats are ranked fourth among Peach Belt Conference (PBC) schools, behind No. 4 Armstrong Atlantic, No. 8 Columbus State University and No. 12 Clayton State University.
In the region, GC is positioned fourth, again with the same three teams ahead of the Bobcats.
The Bobcat doubles team of Kayla Barksdale (Augusta, Ga.) and Bertille Lion (Lyon, France) earned the No. 24 spot in the national rankings, taking No. 6 in the region. The Bobcat pair finished the 2011 season 15-7 with a 6-5 conference mark, also earning an All-PBC Second Team slot.
Lion took the No. 14 slot in the region rankings in singles action. Also Second Team All-PBC, Lion was 11-12 in first singles, with a 7-5 PBC mark.
The Bobcats advanced to the NCAA Tournament this season, making 17-straight appearances in that regional tourney.
