MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 26 Georgia College women's tennis team (15-7) made it three straight wins as they finished off the University of West Georgia (3-12) Sunday afternoon, 9-0.
The Bobcats dominated the doubles portion of the match finishing up in less than 35 minutes and shutting out the Wolves in all three spots. Kayla Barksdale (Augusta, Ga.) and Bertille Lion (Lyon, France) played out of the No. 1 spot toppling Amanda Stewart and Abby Gates, 8-0. May Johnson (Sydney, Australia) and Michelle Lingner (Dunwoody, Ga.) continued the trend dropping Kelsey Bowman and Caroline Brown, 8-0. Johnson and Lingner share the team lead in wins and stand at 13-4.
Lisa Setyon (Paris, France) and Kelly Edwards (Roswell, Ga.) finished off the Wolves and gave Georgia College the doubles sweep defeating Aubrey Biddle and Jennifer Economy, 8-0. The GC third doubles pair is 12-6.
Lion played out of the No. 1 spot for the Bobcats and shut out Stewart, 6-0, 6-0. Johnson followed suit toppling Brown in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Lochner stepped up to the third spot and dropped Economy, 6-0, 6-1.
Setyon played out of the fourth slot in singles shutting out Gates in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Tracy Bain (Norcross, Ga.) and Edwards stepped in for the 'Cats to play at five and six singles. Bain baffled Biddle in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1. Edwards finished up the sweep for the Bobcats dominating Bowman, 6-2, 6-0.
The women and men will face off against No. 10 Flagler College tomorrow afternoon, April 11 slated for a 2 p.m. start. The bout with the Saints will be the final regular-season match for GC, who stands sixth in the PBC standings at 7-4. The Bobcats could finish as high as fourth, depending on other conference matches this week.
