COLUMBUS, Ga. – The No. 26 Georgia College women's tennis team (12-6, 7-3 PBC) was halted Sunday at No. 8 Columbus State (11-4, 8-1 PBC), 9-0. The last time GC was blanked was to No. 1 Armstrong Atlantic Feb. 20.
The Bobcats fell quickly 3-0 in doubles and it would not get any better. Kayla Barksdale (Augusta, Ga.) and Bertille Lion (Lyon, France) played out of the one spot and had their seven-match win streak snapped by Madeline Johnson and Loriane Favoretto, 8-2. May Johnson (Sydney, Australia) and Michelle Lingner (Dunwoody, Ga.) played the closest doubles match of the day, but fell to Tracy Castillo and Olivera Jokic, 8-5.
Lion was back in action after sitting out Saturday but was downed by No. 18 Castillo, 6-2, 6-1 in first singles. Johnson's result wasn't any better as she was toppled by Favoretto, 6-2, 6-3. Barksdale lost a hard-fought match out of the No. 3 spot to Johnson, 6-4, 6-3.
Jokic topped Lochner in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Setyon battled out of the five spot, losing a heartbreaking first set, 7-5 and then was easily defeated in the second, 6-1. The loss snaps her eight-match winning streak. Lingner played out of the six spot and concluded the match for the Bobcats falling to Paiva, 6-4, 6-3.
The Bobcat women are back in action Tuesday, April 5 at 2:30 p.m., traveling to No. 12 Clayton State University.
