MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 30 Georgia College women's tennis team (9-3, 6-2 PBC) took down the University of Montevallo Falcons (3-14, 0-9 PBC) at the Centennial Center Tennis Courts Sunday afternoon, 9-0. The GC women have now won four in a row.
The Bobcats swept the doubles portion of the match, 3-0. The 'Cats shut out Montevallo, 8-0 in the third slot to start the rout when Lisa Setyon (Paris, France) and Kelly Edwards (Roswell, Ga.) toppled Yulia Shvetsova and Amy McGucken. Kayla Barksdale (Augusta, Ga.) and Bertille Lion (Lyon, France) then got a first doubles win and brought their record over .500, downing Helene Nordgreen and Calli Robinson, 8-3. GC would continue the rout as May Johnson (Sydney, Australia) and Michelle Lingner (Dunwoody, Ga.) downed Kayla Hackett and Kodi Bobo, 8-3. Johnson and Lingner remain perfect on the season at 7-0.
The day did not get any better for the Falcons as they fell 6-0 in singles. Barksdale finished her match first playing out of the No. 3 spot and downing Robinson, 6-0, 6-0. Lingner finished next in the No. 6 spot and clinched the day for the Bobcats defeating Gant, 6-0, 6-0 to improve to 5-1 on the season. Lion played out of the No. 1 spot and dominated Nordgreen, 6-0, 6-0.
In fifth singles, Setyon played well yet again for the 'Cats improving her record to 8-2 sitting down McGucken in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Johnson finished fifth playing in the No. 2 spot shutting out Hackett, 6-0, 6-0. Lochner then finished out the day winning in a marathon over Bobo, 6-4, 2-6, 10-6.
The Bobcats will travel to Pensacola, Fla. on their annual spring break trip to play in the White Sands Invitational hosted by the University of West Florida. The GC women will start with the No. 5 Argos on their home turf Wednesday, March 23 at 2 p.m.
