#30 GC Women Shipwrecked by #1 Armstrong Atlantic, 9-0

SAVANNAH, Ga. The No. 30 Georgia College women's tennis team (4-2, 2-1 PBC) suffered their first shutout loss of the season to No. 1 Armstrong Atlantic (2-0, 1-0 PBC) Sunday afternoon, 9-0.

The Bobcats lost the doubles portion of the team battle, 3-0. Bertille Lion (Lyon, France) and Kayla Barksdale (Augusta, Ga.) dropped the first doubles match against No. 1 Alida Muller-Wehlau and Barbora Krtickova, 8-3.

May Johnson (Sydney, Australia) and Kim Lochner (Neu-Isenburg) suffered their third doubles loss of the season to Aleksndra Filipovski and Joanna Szymczyk, in the second slot 8-1. The 'Cats got shutout 8-0 in the third slot when Lisa Setyon (Paris, France) and Kelly Edwards (Roswell, Ga.) were toppled  by Jessica Gardefjord and Kathleen Henry.

GC's troubles continued in singles against the Pirates. In a first-singles bout, Lion lost to No. 1 Alida Muller-Wehlau, 6-0, 6-0. No. 8 Krtickova got the better of Johnson, 6-1, 6-4. In third singles, defending Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Player of the Week Barksdale suffered her first singles loss of the season to Filipovski in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.

In fourth singles, Lochner was defeated by No. 10 Joanna Szymczyk, 6-3, 6-2 and in the fifth slot, Setyon suffered her first loss of the season but closest match of the day to No. 25 Henry, 6-4, 6-3. Gardefjord defeated Edwards to end the day in the sixth slot 6-2, 6-1.

The Bobcats will play again at home Friday, Feb 25 hosting No. 29 Augusta State University for a 2 p.m. start.
