#30 Bobcat Women Ease Past Wingate, 6-3

WINGATE, N.C. – The No. 30 Georgia College women's tennis team (4-0, 2-0 PBC) posted another win at Wingate University (2-1) Sunday afternoon, 6-3. The Bobcats stayed undefeated on the young 2011 season.

The Bobcats won the doubles portion of the team battle, 2-1. Bertille Lion (Lyon, France) and Kayla Barksdale (Augusta, Ga.) had a first doubles victory over Kara Stasikelis and Kelli Ferguson, 8-4.

May Johnson (Sydney, Australia) and Kim Lochner (Neu-Isenburg) dropped their first doubles match of the season to Ali Evers and Samantha Alschlager, in the second slot 8-5. The 'Cats took the third slot when Lisa Setyon (Paris, France) and Kelly Edwards (Roswell, Ga.) edged past Morgan Winston and Olivia Poole, 9-7.

GC won the top three singles matches of the afternoon. In a first-singles battle, Lion toppled Stasikelis, 6-1, 6-1. Johnson got the better of Winston, 6-4, 6-1. In third singles, Barksdale stepped up for GC, winning the fifth match of the day against Evers in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1.

In fourth singles, Lochner was defeated by Poole, 6-3, 6-1 and in the fifth slot, Setyon remained undefeated gathering her third win of the season over Ferguson, 6-1, 7-6. Goreski defeated Edwards in the sixth slot 6-1, 6-3.

GC has won seven straight regular-season matches. The Bobcats will play again Friday, Feb 18 at SCAD at 2 p.m.
