MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Freshman Kayla Barksdale (Martinez, Ga.) of the Georgia College & State University women's tennis team was named the GCSU Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 4, the sports information office announced today (Oct. 6). This is the second consecutive honor for Barksdale as well as the women's tennis team.
Barksdale dominated her competition in Flight ‘2' at the Chick-Fil-A Collegiate Championships in Augusta, Ga. In her first match, she beat Berry College's Barbara Tomai 6-1, 6-3. She beat Camila Correa of Augusta State University 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinals and won 6-4, 6-3 in the finals over USC Aiken's Stephanie Humphrey. Barksdale's victory marks her second tournament win of the fall, as she also was the Flight ‘B' champ for the Windstream/Georgia College Women's Tennis Fall Championship.
