#30 Bobcat Womens Tennis Blanks North Georgia, 9-0
DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University women’s tennis team (7-7, 3-4 PBC) dominated North Georgia (6-10, 3-5 PBC) 9-0 Tuesday, collecting its fourth shutout of the 2010 campaign.
At first doubles, the Bobcat French duo of Diane Danna (Paris) and Bertille Lion (Lyon, France) improved to 8-6 on the season, slipping past the Saints’ team of Brittany Smith and Stasa Vujoseciv in a hard fought 9-7 battle.
Georgia College freshmen Kayla Barksdale (Martinez, Ga.) and Michelle Lingner (Dunwoody, Ga.) defeated Jordan Poole and Juliana Chiong 8-4, while Adriana Acuna (Peachtree City, Ga.) and Linda Mosa (Stockholm, Sweden) beat Ashley Marie Jordan and Sara Vaughters 8-6 in third doubles.
In singles action, Danna downed Vujoseciv in a pair of 6-1 sets in the No. 1 position. Barksdale was down 2-5 against Smith when Smith retired, giving the Bobcat the victory. Lion swept Chiong 6-0 and 6-1 at third singles, while Lingner beat Jordan 6-3 and 6-1.
Slotted fifth, Mosa surrendered the first set 3-6 to Poole. The Bobcat evened things up, taking the second set 6-4 and claimed the tie-breaker 10-8, while Acuna won sixth singles 6-1 and 6-3 over Matilda Wastson.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, April 2 at 2 p.m. traveling to Georgia Southwestern State University.
