#29 Bobcat Women’s Tennis Blanked by #1 Armstrong, 9-0

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - No. 29 Georgia College & State University women's tennis (2-2, 0-1 PBC) kicked off the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) season Tuesday, dropping a 9-0 defeat to No. 1 Armstrong Atlantic State University (7-0, 5-0 PBC) at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.

With all three doubles squads ranked in the nation's top-15, as well as four nationally-ranked individuals, the Pirates put together a tough lineup.

Diane Danna (Paris) and Bertille Lion (Lyon, France) teamed to give Alida Muller-Wehlau and Martina Beckmann a fight at first doubles, falling 8-4 to the nation's No. 3 duo. It was the first loss of the season in four matches for the French pairing.

At the second slot, the No. 4 team of Gabriella Kovacs and Sona Novakova beat Kayla Barksdale (Martinez, Ga.) and Michelle Lingner (Dunwoody, Ga.) 8-3. No. 15 Tina Ronel and Kathleen Henry put up the same score in a win over Adriana Acuna (Peachtree City, Ga.) and Linda Mosa (Stockholm, Sweden).

In singles action, Danna battled the No. 1 player in the country in Novakova, losing by 6-1, 6-1 score. Barksdale lost 6-2, 6-1 to No. 5 Muller-Wehlau. At third singles, Lion dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to No. 38 Ronel.

Lingner lost 6-0, 6-2 to No. 24 Beckmann, while in fifth singles, Mosa fell by a pair of 6-2s to Henry. Alisa Kagukina shut out Acuna in straight sets at sixth singles. 

The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Feb. 26 as they travel to No. 22 Augusta State University with a start time of 2 p.m.
