Byrne played four seasons for the Bobcats as a defensive midfielder, seeing action in 33 games. She tallied five points on a goal and three assists, her lone strike marking the game-winner in a 2-1 victory over always-tough Tusculum College. Mary graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2009 with a Degree in Elementary Education from GC. She was on the Deans List or Presidential List every semester.
She was on the Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll all four years as well. Byrne received the 2007-08 GCSU Comeback Player of the Year Award for Bobcat Athletics, after missing half of the games during her sophomore year and many during her junior year while recovering from a major car accident during the fall of 2006.

In February 2011, Byrne received her United States Soccer Federation “D” License. Byrne lives in Milledgeville.
