MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Soccer team (3-0) put on another stellar defensive performance Friday night, notching their third consecutive clean sheet to start the season as they held the University of Montevallo (1-1-1) scoreless in a 1-0 victory.
The lone goal of the match came on an incredible strike from a direct free kick by senior left back Unnbjorg Omarsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) near the end of the first half. From the left edge of the box, the Bobcat defender lifted the ball across the entire Falcon defense and slotted it perfectly into the top right corner.
The goal proved to be all Georgia College needed, as keeper Ashlee Graham (Decatur) and the rest of the Bobcat defense prevented the Falcons from reaching the back of the net. With two saves and the shutout, the scoreless 90 minutes increased Graham's clean sheet time total to an incredible 280:36.
The Bobcat forwards held the ball up well and had a number of chances in each half. Amanda Bartholomew (Peachtree City), Alyssa Bergamini (West Suffield, Connecticut), and Sofia Lekas (Lizella) all had shots on goal in the win.
With the win, the Bobcats improve to 3-0 on the season but have a quick turnaround as they face the University of West Georgia in the final match of the 2018 Bobcat Shootout Sunday, Sept. 9. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
