SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Junior Amanda Bartholomew (Peachtree City, Georgia) scored a school-record four goals, all in the first half, as Georgia College Soccer (6-5) downed Converse College (3-8-2) 7-0 Wednesday night on the road.
The Bobcats controlled play with a 23-8 shot advantage, as 15 of those 23 shots were on-target. Bartholomew broke through first in the 11th minute, beating a defender to send a shot to the lower right corner.
Less than three minutes later, she made it 2-0 with a one-timer off a pass from Cassie Balzano (Douglasville, Georgia). The hat-trick strike came for Bartholomew in the 22nd minute, once again off a pass from Balzano. The freshman has three assists this year, all coming on Bartholomew goals.
In the 40th minute, Bartholomew let someone else get in on the action with as Maddie Stephen (Norcross, Georgia) scored for a 4-0 lead, the first goal of the season for the senior. Then, with just over a minute until halftime, Bartholomew took a pass from Anya Mancinelli (Atlanta) to paydirt for the fourth time, setting a school record for goals in a single contest. The prior mark of three was completed six times, most recently by Bartholomew in a 2016 matchup with Francis Marion University.
In the second half, Mancinelli scored her first of the season in the 64th minute for the 6-0 lead, and Balzano capped the scoring in the 86th minute with her third goal of the year. The seven-goal match is second-most in school history for the team, and most since eight against Georgia Southwestern State University in 2014.
Junior Ashlee Graham (Decatur, Georgia) made five saves for her first shutout this season and the sixth of her career, tying the netminder with Annie Stephens (2011-14) for third in school history.
With today's effort, Bartholomew moves into second in school history for single-season goals, just three behind the record set by Hayley Ferrell in 2007.
The Bobcats stay perfect at 2-0 against Converse all-time. GC Soccer also extends ist non-conference win streak to three.
