Bobcat Soccer Clinches Playoff Spot with Georgia Southwestern Win, 3-0

AMERICUS, Ga. – Getting three goals from three different players, the Georgia College soccer team (8-6-2, 5-3-2 PBC) got a shutout win at Georgia Southwestern State University (0-16-1, 0-10-1 PBC) 3-0 Wednesday.

The victory extends the Bobcat streak of six matches without a loss in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play.

"I am proud of the team tonight for picking up the three points we needed," said head coach Hope Clark.  "GSW made it difficult, but we were able to find a way to win as a team."

Sophomore Ally Barys (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) got the scoring started with the lone goal of the first half, making good on a header for her fourth goal of the season with just 16 seconds left. Both Kacey McInerney (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Abby Dalton (Macon, Ga.) recorded assists on the play.

After the halftime break, a pair of newcomers kept the scoring rolling, as McInerney netted a strike in the 68th minute and Cayce Hamilton (Duluth, Ga.) capped the scoring in the 84th minute.

McInerney's goal was the second of the sophomore's season, and came from just outside the 18-yard box. Hamilton's goal was her fourth, and was deftly floated over goalkeeper Vanna Lucke's hands.

Lucke finished with 10 saves in the loss, while Jessica Catapano (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Taylor Cornelius (Dacula, Ga.) split the goalkeeping duties for the Bobcats. Neither keeper posted a save, as the Bobcat defensive line surrendered just three shots and all were off frame.

The Bobcat win jumps their point total to 17, good for sixth in the PBC Standings, clinching a spot in the upcoming conference tournament. With one match remaining, the Bobcats could jump as high as fifth.

GC soccer is back in action Saturday, Nov. 2 at 4 p.m., traveling to Flagler College (5-10-2, 1-7-2 PBC). The Saints most recently lost to Armstrong Atlantic State University 1-0 tonight.
