GC Soccer Drops Contest at Newberry, 1-0

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Georgia College soccer team (6-6-1) saw a three-match streak without a loss come to a halt in non-conference action at Newberry College (8-4) Wednesday, 1-0.

Georgia College was unable to overcome an early goal off the foot of Newberry's Gabrielle Brodie, scoring her fourth goal of the season, 9:13 into the match. The Wolve defense was working hard during the contest, only allowing two shots on target.

"I give credit to Newberry today," said head coach Hope Clark. "They wanted it more than we did. We need to work on our intensity and consistency as a team as we head toward the conference tournament."

The Bobcats won the shot battle 14-12, but were unsuccessful in putting the ball into the back of the net. Leading the way for Georgia College was Ally Barys (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) with five and following her was Ashley Veilleux (Monroe, Ga.) with three, one being on target.

Playing all 90 minutes for the Bobcats in goal was Jessica Catapano (Alpharetta, Ga.), who put together a solid night adding five saves on six attempts. Leading the wolves in saves was Rebecca Darely, who played all 90 minutes for Newberry.

The Bobcats are currently in fifth place in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) with 10 points, trailing the University of North Georgia by two. The top eight teams in the PBC will advance to the PBC tournament, while the top four teams hosting first round action.
