Bobcat Soccer Tops Anderson, 2-0

ANDERSON, S.C. – Getting a pair of first-half goals on the road, the Georgia College soccer team (3-2) won its second-straight match, this time a 2-0 finish at Anderson University (1-3-1) Wednesday night.

Just over six minutes into the contest, freshman Liz Franco (Alpharetta, Ga.) broke the scoreless game with her first collegiate goal. Franco took a pass off a corner kick by Abby Dalton (Macon, Ga.) for the 1-0 lead.

Junior Ashley Veilleux (Monroe, Ga.) netted the second strike with just 20 ticks left before halftime, coming off a cross from Cayce Hamilton (Duluth, Ga.), the freshman's first career assist.

The Trojans picked up the offensive intensity in the second half, out-shooting Georgia College 9-1, but couldn't break through the split shutout effort of freshman Jessica Catapano (Alpharetta, Ga.) and junior Annie Stephens (Fayetteville, Ga.). Catapano made one save in the first half, while Stephens stopped a pair in the second. Anderson netminder Kaitlyn Neipp made five saves in the loss.

Georgia College out-shot the Trojans 12-11 thanks to an 11-2 advantage in the first half.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Sept. 21 at 3 p.m. hosting USC Aiken for the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) opener and "Old Capitol Soccer League Day".
