Bobcat Soccer Falls at #5 Armstrong, 5-1
SAVANNAH, Ga. – Taking on their second nationally-ranked opponent of the week, the Georgia College soccer squad (6-7-1, 2-5-1 PBC) dropped a 5-1 match at No. 5 Armstrong (10-1-1, 7-0 PBC) Saturday.
The Pirates busted out of the gates, scoring five first-half goals. Morgan Mitchell got the scoring barrage started in the 17th minute, and finished with four goals on the half.
The lone Bobcat strike came at the 13:02 mark in the second stanza, an own goal scored by the Pirate defense.
The Bobcats were out-shot 20-9. Sophomore goalkeeper Annie Stephens (Fayetteville, Ga.) played the first 30:31 and took the loss, making a pair of saves. The Pirates split time in net as well, Morgan Luckie making a single first-half save for the victory.
Georgia College has now faced six nationally-ranked squads on the year, owning a 3-3 mark with victories over No. 5 North Georgia, No. 8 Saint Leo and No. 14 North Alabama. The Bobcat loss ends a three-match streak without a loss for GC. The win was the 10th straight for Armstrong.
The Bobcats are back in action Thursday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. hosting Newberry College in the annual "Kick for the Cure" game for breast cancer awareness.
